VolunTemoc

What is VolunTemoc?

VolunTemoc is an annual day of service organized by the Office of Student Volunteerism. The event is named after our university mascot, Temoc.

On this day, students and staff join forces with community partners to make a positive impact in the local area. By coming together to volunteer, students and staff address critical issues, provide much-needed assistance and make a difference in the lives of those around them. This collaborative effort not only benefits the community but also builds valuable skills and relationships that will last a lifetime.

Community Partners

For the event to be successful, we rely on the local community and non-profit organizations to host our volunteers. If you are interested in hosting a group, please take a moment to provide details for your project so we have a better understanding about what type of project you want to facilitate.

Ideally, we are looking for projects that can take place in two-hour shifts between 9 a.m. and noon on October 28. If you have a service project that needs to take place outside of that timeframe, please email [email protected] and we can discuss options with you.

In 2022, VolunTemoc participants:

  • Sorted through food donations and restocked pantry shelves at the Network of Community Ministries.
  • Assembled blankets for children affiliated with Project Linus.
  • Washed the transport vehicles for the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas.
  • Cleaned out crates and bins and washed animals at the Richardson and Plano Animal Shelters.
  • Assisted the Richardson Police Department with their annual bulk shredding and electronics disposal event for community members.
  • Cleared an elder resident’s backyard to bring it up to code through City of Richardson Community Services.
  • Picked up trash along the Office of Student Volunteerism’s Adopt-A-Highway stretch of the President George Bush Turnpike.
  • Spread mulch and compost material and harvested produce at the UTD Community Garden.
